Chapter 1
The Trinity of God

In the book of Matthew Chapter 28 Verse 19 Jesus tells his followers to go forth teaching and baptizing in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Many prayers end with the phrase; “In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.”  Another closing phrase is; “In Jesus name.”  Jesus is thought to be the Son in the Holy Trinity.  There is God the Father, the Holy Spirit which might be considered the Mother aspect of the Holy Trinity, and the Son which is actually the Christ, or the anointing of God that was on Jesus.  This isn’t the only way to look at the Holy Trinity.

God is also considered as Life, Light and Love, and the Trinity of God is said to be Omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent.  The prefix Omni means all.  Omnipotent means that God has unlimited power and is able to do anything.  Omniscient means that God has infinite awareness, understanding, insight and wisdom.  Omnipresent means that God is present everywhere at once all the time.

Although God is a trinity the three aspects are not separate.  They are always together.  One aspect might be more visible, more predominant or more active at any given time and in any given place, but all three are always there.  When we pray to one, we are praying to all three.

God is Life – Omnipresent

In the book of Geneses, Chapter 2 Verse 7 it says that God made man of the dust of the earth and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and man became a living soul.

Geneses 2:7
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Before that first breath the fetus developed via the life in the mother which she constantly breathed in through her nostrils.  Once the fetus exits the womb and takes its first breath it also constantly continues to breathe in the breath of life from God.  You could say that the life of man is in his breath.  You could also say that it is God breathing that breath into our nostrils.  Throughout the Bible life and breath are synonymous.  In Genesis 7:15 Noah loaded the arc with two of all flesh wherein is the breath of life.

Genesis 7:15
And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.

There are more verses that indicate that the life is in the breath.  Here are just a few.

Psalm 104:29
Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

Ezekiel 37:5
Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:

The Classic Amplified Version (AMPC) describes when Jesus died on the cross.

Mark 15:37 (AMPC)
And Jesus uttered a loud cry and breathed his last.

As long as we keep breathing, as long as we breathe it is God’s breath and God’s life that we are filling our lungs with.  That life of God is transferred in our lungs to our blood and distributed throughout our bodies.  Every cell of our bodies has the life of God in it.  We don’t have to look outside, on the mountain top or even up in the sky to heaven to find God, His life is within us and our lives are within Him.  David explains that wherever he goes, God is there.

Psalm 139:7-11
Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?  If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.  If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.  If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

God is Omnipresent.  He is everywhere, even in every cell of our bodies, and He is Omniscient in the wisdom that keeps our bodies alive and growing and Omnipotent in the power to do so. God really is awesome.

God is Love – Omnipotent

Smile, God Loves You!  That isn’t just a bumper sticker sound bite, it is a spiritual truth.  God can’t help but love you because He is Love.  John’s first letter literally says that God is love.

1 John 4:16
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Not only is God Love but He Loves the world so much that He gave us Himself.  He gave us the Christ, the Son in the Holy Trinity.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

There are over 50 verses in the Bible that mention God’s Love.  One aspect of God’s love is mercy, and the phrase “His mercy endureth forever” appears 41 times in the King James Bible.  For a more expanded concept of what God’s love is we can look to 1 Corinthians Chapter 13 which is sometimes called the love chapter.

In the love chapter we find that love is kind and patient.  It is not selfish nor is it rude or jealous.  Wait a minute; there are several places in the Old Testament where God says He is a jealous God.  How can that be if God is love and love is not jealous?  We will get into that later but for now let’s just accept that God is love.  Love is also hopeful, truthful and never fails.  One version, the Classic Amplified Version (AMPC), says that love is not touchy, fretful or resentful.  We could say that love is a force for good and it is the most powerful force in the universe.  You might say that love is Omnipotent.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (AMPC)
Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.  It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].  Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end].

Jesus exemplified the Love and Mercy of God in John 8:3-8.  The Jewish leaders brought him a woman that was caught in the act of adultery.  According to the law she should have been stoned to death but Jesus, adding wisdom to love said to the leaders, ”He who is without sin cast the first stone.”  Of course they all left because all have sinned.  He didn’t judge the woman, he just told her to go and sin no more.

John 8:3-11
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.  Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?  This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.  So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.  And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.   And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.  When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?  She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

There are people and groups who condemn and even persecute others that are not like them.  Some even do it in the name of God saying they are God’s army.  But that is not God’s way.  God is Love and He doesn’t condemn, He forgives.

God is Light – Omniscient Wisdom

Light is much more than what allows us to see the world we live in.  It is also knowledge, knowing or wisdom.  God sees all.  You can’t fool God because He is Omniscient.  He knows what you have done, what you are doing and what you will do, mostly.  He has given us free will to make our own decisions and set the course for our lives but He knows us and understands us better than we know ourselves.  When we make a decision to follow a certain path, He knows the path and He knows how we will respond to the things we will meet on that path.  We might change our minds, but He knew we would.  You cannot out smart God.

People sometimes wonder, if God is so loving and so powerful, why do bad things happen.  God is not to blame, we are.  We have our free will. If we listen to the God that is inside of us we will make better decisions and life will be better.

Unfortunately there are so many distractions and temptations in the world that we often do not hear that still small voice of God within.  He is not pushy and He will not force us to do the right thing.  When we do the wrong thing, when we step outside of love, there are consequences for our actions.  God put before us the choice.

Deuteronomy 30:19
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:

We make these choices all day every day. There is a saying that sums it up like this: The more you think about God, the more God thinks about you and the better life gets.  God’s thoughts are God’s light and our thoughts are our light.  When they coincide good things happen, when they don’t, we are on our own.

Psalm 91

Psalm 91 puts it in the terms of “dwelling in the secret place of the Most High.”  Or, “abiding under the Shadow of the Almighty.”  When we do this all the bad things “shall not come neigh thee.”  There shall no evil befall thee…

Psalm 91:1-3
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.  Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

It would be well worth your time to open your Bible and study this psalm carefully.  You might even want to memorize some of it and make it a part of your consciousness.  You can personalize it something like this: “I dwell in the secret place of the most high; I abide under the shadow of the almighty.  No evil can get near me.”

Many years ago I took these verses and some others and committed them to memory.  Then I attached them to something that I do daily.  I attached them to the act of brushing my teeth.  Sometimes I would try to mumble the words out with the toothbrush in my mouth and sometimes I would just run them through my mind.  After a while it became a habit that I still do to this day.  When the toothbrush hits my mouth the scriptures start running through my mind.  One day I hit a place where my attitude was much less than desirable.  I was despondent and didn’t want to give God a first thought, much less a second thought.  I was on the boarder of depression.  Fortunately, as soon as the toothbrush was in my mouth the scriptures started running through my mind and it pulled me right out of the funk that I was in.

This is one way to keep God’s Life, Light and Love alive in your consciousness.  It can help you to be open to that still small voice of conscience that God talks to you through.  Not that that is the only way that God talks to us.  He has all kinds of ways to get through to us, if we will only listen.  He can even use things like newspapers, magazines, TV shows, radio shows, friends and even strangers to get his messages across to us.  When we pray, we are talking to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  However, it is just as important, if not more so, to hear God talk to us.

The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is the trinity that is widely known throughout the Christian world.  The Father is like the Light of God.  It is the wisdom and intellect that designs and updates His creation.  It is the Omniscient aspect of God.  The Holy Spirit is the Omnipresence of God.  It is being. It can be in the form of matter or energy.

The famous scientist, Albert Einstein gave us the simple formula of E=MC2 which means that Energy is equal to Matter.  It is the rate of vibration that determines which it is.  The C means the rate of the speed of light. It is squared in this formula which means that when any form of matter vibrates fast enough it becomes energy.  When we accept the fact that everything exists through vibrations this formula means that Energy and Matter are the same thing only vibrating at different frequencies.

The Son, or the Christ is the Omnipotent Love of God that was given to man.  John 3:16 says that God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son.  He gave us the Christ, the Love of God and He used Jesus to bring it into the world.

The Holy Spirit is present in matter and in energy, everywhere all the time.  Since it is a trinity all three are together all the time.  We live and move and have our being in the Trinity of God.

There is another trinity that is the trinity of man.  Each man, or woman, is a spirit, each has a soul, and each lives in a physical body.  This trinity is finite whereas the Holy Trinity is infinite.  We are limited to the material world but the Holy Trinity is unlimited.

And so it is.
